Quick Play
Quick Play has perks like Competitive, but no hero bans and no ranks.

Ranks and divisions
- Bronze
- Silver
- Gold
- Platinum
- Emerald
- Diamond
- Master
- Grandmaster
- Champion
Every rank has the divisions 5 to 1, and 1 is the highest: the Challenger Score a match pays for Top 500, for example, rises from Master 5 to Master 1.
Source: Patch notes 9 Feb 2026Champion came in Season 9 as the new top rank above Grandmaster.
Source: Patch notes 13 Feb 2024Emerald sits between Platinum and Diamond. Mostly players from Platinum and Diamond moved into it, and the top Champion divisions got harder to reach.

How rank changes are shown
When Overwatch 2 started your rank only moved after 7 wins or 20 losses and draws. From Season 3 it took 5 wins or 15 losses and draws.
Source: Patch notes 7 Feb 2023Since Season 9 the rank moves after every match. Modifiers explain the size of each step, for example a streak, an unsteady rank or a match you were expected to lose.
Source: Patch notes 13 Feb 2024Since Season 4 a new season no longer pulls your rank down.

Placement matches and rank resets
A role gets a rank after 10 matches in it. After each of them the game shows the rank it currently expects, and wins count heavily.
Source: Patch notes 13 Feb 2024At a rank reset every rank goes back to unranked, in Role Queue as well as in Open Queue, and each role needs its 10 placement matches again.
Source: Patch notes 9 Feb 2026In 2024 Blizzard planned a reset every 6 months; in 2026 it named a reset every 3 seasons.

Rank resets
| Date | Change | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Season 9: every rank reset; matchmaking ratings pulled toward the average, about Gold 3. | Patch notes 13 Feb 2024 | |
| Mid-year reset, ten placement matches per role. | Patch notes 20 Aug 2024 | |
| Season 15: reset; Master, Grandmaster and Champion tuned to hold more players. | Patch notes 18 Feb 2025 | |
| Season 18: soft reset; hero ratings were reset as well, a first. | Patch notes 26 Aug 2025 | |
| Season 1 of 2026: soft reset; how many players sit in each rank stays the same. | Patch notes 9 Feb 2026 | |
| No reset, but ranks spread anew because Emerald was added. | Patch notes 11 Aug 2026 |
Hero Skill Rating
Since Season 18 your career profile shows a rating from 0 to 5,000 for each hero; 5,000 stands for the very top of Champion 1. Matchmaking does not use it.
Source: Patch notes 26 Aug 2025A hero is placed after 5 matches. A match counts for a hero if you played it for at least 3 minutes and it was among your 3 most played heroes there. Role Queue has its own hero ratings, apart from Open Queue.

Points and rewards
A win gives 10 Competitive Points, a draw 5, a loss none.
Source: Patch notes 13 Feb 2024Season rewards follow the highest rank you reached in the season, not the last one. Top 500 is the exception.
Source: Patch notes 26 Aug 2025The leaderboard is called Top 500 Challenger. Matches pay Challenger Score by your own rank, from Master upward; Diamond no longer qualifies.
