How a match runs
Map vote, respawns, hero swaps and what happens after the match.
Map vote
Before a Quick Play or Competitive match the players vote among 3 maps. Each vote is a chance: with 9 votes for one map and 1 for another, the first wins 90% of the time.
Source: Patch notes 24 Jun 2025Mystery Heroes had the vote too, until it became 6v6.
Source: Patch notes 24 Jun 2025 · Patch notes 14 Apr 2026A fourth choice picks a random map. A map with 6 more votes than every other wins outright (8 votes are always enough in 5v5, 9 in 6v6).
Source: Patch notes 14 Apr 2026New and reworked maps are tagged. In Competitive they give 10 extra Competitive Points and a smaller loss penalty.
Source: Patch notes 14 Apr 2026The three maps always cover at least 2 different modes.

Dying and respawning
The usual respawn time is 12 seconds, 14 in overtime.
Source: Patch notes 20 Aug 2024Respawns come in waves: the first death of a team opens a wave, anyone dying within the next 6 seconds joins it and respawns at the same moment, so the wait is between 6 and 12 seconds.
Source: Patch notes 20 Aug 2024In 6v6 modes the window to join a wave is 3 seconds instead of 6.
Source: Patch notes 22 Apr 2025There are no waves in overtime or when a payload nears the end of its track.

After the match
The two best heroes of each team go on stage, players vote for the MVP and can endorse each other from there. Match voice chat is open, but you have to join it.
